U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg Public Affairs Section, U.S. Department of State (PAS) is pleased to announce that proposals are requested for the following project:
As part of the U.S. Mission’s commitment to supporting inclusive economic growth in South African cities, the Mission seeks grant proposals of up to $150,000.00 that devise creative and inclusive projects that promote conscientious urban revitalization in low-income urban neighborhoods through “creative placemaking” that integrates community-based arts and culture programs into community development strategies for sustainable urban transformation.
The U.S. Mission will use the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts definition of creative placemaking: “In creative placemaking, partners from public, private, non-profit, and community sectors strategically shape the physical and social character of a neighborhood, town, city, or region around arts and cultural activities.”
This grant requires a partnership between a non-profit organization and a local government entity, the nature of which should be demonstrated in the grant application in the form of a memorandum of understanding or a letter of intent from a local government entity to a non-profit organization, or evidence of an already existing partnership on an in-progress project that this grant would augment. Additional partnerships with private entities are permissible and encouraged, but do not replace the need for partnership with a local government entity.
